History

and Facts

Here are some facts about the 1974 Chevrolet Corvette:

Production

1974 was the second-largest production year for the Corvette, with 37,502 units produced, including 32,028 coupes and 5,474 convertibles.

Engines

The 1974 Corvette had three engine options: the L48 and L82 small-block 350s, rated at 195 and 250 horsepower (hp), respectively, and the LS4 454, rated at 270 hp. The LS4 454 was the last use of the 454 cu in (7.4 L) big block engine.

Features

The 1974 Corvette had wide GR70-15 steel belted radial tires, ventilated and self-adjusting disc brakes at each wheel, and a 4-barrel 350-cube V8 engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. It also had soft color-keyed urethane bumpers, warm courtesy lights when the doors were opened, and deep-twist carpeting and vinyl seat trim.

Dimensions

The 1974 Corvette's height ranged from 1206 mm to 1220 mm, its width from 1750 mm to 1753 mm, and its length from 4635 mm to 4700 mm, depending on the variant.

Significance

The 1974 Corvette was the last year for the Corvette's dual exhaust systems, catalytic converters, and big block engine. Hot Rod magazine named the 1973-74 Corvette LS4 454 one of the "10 most collectible muscle cars" in 1986
